Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison
blackbox

Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison remains one of the greatest live albums ever made, and the man himself one of America's greatest troubadours and advocates for prison reform. Forty years later, the album still resonates with a rawness and authenticity that few recordings have ever achieved. This film exposes a lesser-known "Man in Black" through an exciting, visually compelling examination of this historic concert.

Scarred Justice: The Orangeburg Massacre
blackbox

This film brings to light one of the most deadly—and least known—events of the civil rights era. On February 8, 1968, eight seconds of gunfire left three young black men dead and at least 28 wounded on the campus of South Carolina State College at Orangeburg. Almost all were shot from behind as they fled. The film tells the story of the massacre, examining the events leading up to the tragedy and its aftermath within a national context.

The Dhamma Brothers
blackbox

This film tells a dramatic story of a group of prisoners in the Donaldson Correctional Facility in Alabama undertaking a surprising spiritual transformation: they begin to meditate together on a regular basis, eventually participating in a physically and emotionally demanding Vipassana program that requires over 100 hours of silent meditation. The struggle is both institutional and personal, as worries spread about the influence of Buddhist practices in a dogmatic Christian community and inmates turn their minds inward to reflect on their troubled pasts.

Killer Poet
blackbox

Norman Porter, a convicted double murderer from Massachusetts, served 25 years in prison before escaping to Chicago where he spent the next two decades living under the name JJ Jameson. He was apprehended in 2005, thanks to a relentless police investigation, just after being named Chicago’s “Poet of the Month”. The film interweaves varying perspectives on an elusive and enigmatic persona, from the eccentric characters living in the heart of Chicago’s beatnik-artist community, to the victims’ embittered families in Boston, and the vigilant officers behind the 20-year hunt for a killer.

Texas Snake Man
blackbox

Jackie Bibby is the last word in all things rattlesnake. He's replaced the high he once got from drugs and alcohol with an adrenaline kick from wrangling snakes at roundups, cozying up with rattlers in his bathtub, and holding more than a dozen serpents in his mouth (for which he holds a world record). He may be a thrill junkie, but he’s also a sought-out expert on snakes as well as the director of a drug recovery house for addicts, where he once lived himself. It’s a high-stakes lifestyle with some serious consequences.

Weapons of Mass Disruption
blackbox

Weapons of Mass Disruption is a groundbreaking cinematic exposé that reveals America’s naked vulnerability to a new kind of weapon—a weapon that alone does not kill or lay waste, yet not unlike a nuclear holocaust, is capable of reducing our civilization to the level of the Stone Age—overnight.  As the most networked nation on earth, America is the easiest target in a cyber war.  And while the combat in this war may take place in virtual space, the destruction is real.
